From 0 to 10,000 Feet

I packed the car the night before to make sure I could fit in all our gear, food, clothes, guitar and skateboard. Really, I just had to make sure my skateboard would fit. So we headed out early Sunday, kids had their movies and I had the new Rush album cranking (I've listened to it 4 times and Sharon hasn't complained yet so it must be pretty damn good). Smooth sailing. Then Fiona puked just as we turned onto Hwy 71 off of SW Parkway. Ooops, we forgot the puke bucket. Back home to wash the beloved yellow blankie and clean the car seat.

I got my first acclimation ride in today. We're staying at about 8,500 ft and I rode up to about 10,000 feet. I took me a few hours studying maps and the local mountain biking guide to figure out a route here. I've never seen such a massive trail system. You can bike 40+ miles over 12,000+ ft passes to Aspen (unfortunately not enough time on this trip). I settled for the Upper, Upper loop and it's quite a nice piece of single track. I hope to get in some longer rides in a couple of days, but tomorrow it's off to Conundrum Hot Springs. We'll be hiking with full pack overnight at over 13,000 ft. Then the girls get to get out for a night of camping. I can't wait to get back on the bike in a couple of days to test how much by body has acclimated.
